Testimonies from Beyond

A glimpse into an archive that should not have to exist.

Testimonies from Beyond is the first archive from Myanmar dedicated to memorialization, evidence, and justice. It gathers objects, images, and witness accounts from civilians who lived through the military’s campaign of terror. Each piece holds the weight of a life interrupted and a truth nearly erased.

The archive was gathered through the ground-level network inside and outside Myanmar by Burma VJ and the Stars of Myanmar Friendship Club, with the curatorial direction of the Myanmar Peace Museum. Every participant risked their safety to recover and safeguard these traces. Many did not survive to see their work remembered.

SACCA continues to document Myanmar’s reality through documentary photography, contributing to the shared effort of Testimonies from Beyond.
The first public exhibition of this archive was made possible with financial support for the venue provided by Burma Campaign UK.

Burma VJ, the Stars of Myanmar Friendship Club, the Myanmar Peace Museum, and SACCA chose to forgo all payment to make this movement possible. There was not enough funding for anyone to be paid, yet no one stepped back. Each person gave what they could—time, strength, and faith that this record must exist, even if survival became harder because of it.

We are now seeking supporters to help properly preserve, archive, and protect these historic evidences so they remain safe for future generations and future justice.

What appears here is only a fraction. The larger archive remains protected while the Myanmar Peace Museum prepares its permanent digital home where truth can continue to live.

These materials exist because memory refused to die. They speak quietly, but they do not stop speaking.
